Malojian and Matt McGinn are looking forward to performing with the Legendary Martin Carthy

Arguably the greatest English folk song performer, writer, collector and editor of them all’’ Q Magazine

The winner of a Lifetime Achievement Award from the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards in 2014, Martin Carthy has for more than 40 years been one of folk music’s greatest innovators, one of its best loved, most enthusiastic and, at times, most quietly controversial of figures.

His skill, stage presence and natural charm have won him many admirers, not only from within the folk scene, but also far beyond it. Trailblazing partnerships with Steeleye Span, Dave Swarbrick and his award-winning wife (Norma Waterson) and daughter Eliza Carthy have resulted in more than 40 albums.

Stevie Scullion aka Malojian material. Perhaps, most significant of all, are his settings of traditional songs with guitar, which have influenced a generation of artists, including Bob Dylan and Paul Simon, on both sides of the Atlantic.

For this concert, Martin will share the limelight with two of Northern Ireland’s most extraordinary songwriters, Matt McGinn and Stevie Scullion (aka Malojian), who will perform as a duo, offering harmonies and accompaniment on each other’s material. Both artists have a strong track record, including peerless reputations as live performers and guitarists, and writers of exceptional material – showcased most recently by Matt McGinn’s Latter Day Sinner (one of the Daily Telegraph’s Best Folk Albums of 2015), and Malojian’s Southlands (shortlisted for the 2015 Northern Ireland Music Prize).
