Stephen Watson’s passion for all things sporting has made him one of Northern Ireland’s leading TV sports presenters.
After graduating in politics from Queen’s University, Belfast he took up a post in UTV in 1993 before moving to his present post in BBC NI six years later.
As a World Transplant Games gold medal winner in his own right, Stephen’s infectious enthusiasm for sport has been reflected in his in-depth coverage of many of the world’s most prestigious events, including the World Cup Finals, golf’s Masters Competition, The Open, The Ryder Cup, World Championship Boxing, Commonwealth Games and the Six Nations Rugby Championship.
As one of the main presenters on BBC NI’s Newsline, the region’s flagship news and sports programme, Stephen also presents and commentates on international rugby, soccer and motorcycling. In 1998 he scooped the prestigious Sports Journalist of the Year title.
As an after dinner speaker, Stephen’s fervent zeal for sport is carried through in everything he does. Indeed, his sporting tales never fail to entertain audiences. Stephen is also one of Northern Ireland’s most popular MCs at award evenings.
Stephen was born and still lives in Northern Ireland.
Outside of work he also takes a keen interest in sport and is an avid golfer playing off a handicap of 11.
