Declan Harvey

He is well known to audiences in Northern Ireland as a main anchor of the nightly news programme, BBC Newsline, on BBC One.  He also co-hosts Radio Ulster's drivetime programme, Evening Extra. 

Before journalism, Declan trained and worked as a professional actor on both stage and television, including in musical theatre.  He has an MA specialising in voice and worked for a time as a vocal coach. Together this has given him a lasting interest in the arts and for communicating ideas.

As a multi-award winning presenter and reporter he's worked for some of the UKs biggest stations and news programmes including LBC, Classic FM, Capital FM, BBC RAdio 1 Newsbeat, BBC Breakfast, Today (Radio 4) and the BBC World Service.  He has interviewed some of the world's leading opinion formers including politicians, academics and celebrities, and worked extensively with younger adults.

In 2020, following the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic, Declan co-presented the BBC's flagship Good Morning Ulster radio programme from his sitting room for weeks. He has fronted, and provided live commentary, for several significant programmes and podcasts including after the death of Queen Elizabeth II in 2022, and marking the centenary of Northern Ireland in 2021.

Working in theatre, and now each day in a live studio environment, has made Declan a safe pair of hands for when the unexpected happens. He's an experienced live host and event MC, having fronted large outdoor stage events including London's Hyde Park Half Marathon and the London Youth Games. He is also a polished and trusted host for corporate events and conferences, providing advice around the production and planning when required. His easy warmth and humour were praised at the 2019 IMRO Irish Radio Industry Awards by being named News Reporter of the Year.

Declan was named News Broadcaster of the Year at the IMRO Irish Radio Industry Awards 2022 and again in 2023.
